Last assignment!!!

What did I learn in the NLE Course? I learned that ICT can be used creatively in the classroom. It can be used to inspire imaginative students and to give confidence to those who are shy with words in their tasks. I learned that colaboration – as always!! – is a fundamental prerequisite for the successful learning process of each participant. However, I also learned that there is no way that Free-Riders can be eliminated or identified… Of course, the developments of ICT are so fast that as soon as I go back to Italy, I will be reading the Italian language equivalent of “to tweet” someone about something, and since Italian, like Finnish, is a language where pronunciation is phonetic, it will be something like this: tuittare….!!!

The NLE Themes were exactly that: what is “new” and how to use it in education. I think what all the Themes had in common was the importrance of “collaborative” use of ICT, and how using ICT can overcome certain obstacles such as distance and time constraints. What was confirmed, however, was the fact that the core methodology in teaching – whether it is through a regular human being in a classroom environment or through the web – is basically the same: you can call it Lesson Plan or micro/macro script, you can call it “scaffolding” or remedial work/student support, it is basically the importance of identifying an objective you as an educator wish to attain, and planning the strategies you wish to implement so that your students can reach that objective. What can make a difference is “motivation”, ie if the teacher/students are confident in their use of ICT and any obstacles are easily overcome, then progress is smooth and rewarding, if not it can be very frustrating.
